What mobile tyre repair actually involves

Mobile tyre repair means the workshop travels to you. Instead of driving on a damaged tyre or paying for recovery to a garage, a fully equipped fitter attends the vehicle at home, at work, in a car park or at a safe roadside location.

Not every damaged tyre can be repaired. A fitter will inspect the tyre against the British Standard BS AU 159 repair criteria before deciding — and if a repair is not safe, they will tell you and quote for replacement instead. Either way you are told the outcome and the cost before work starts.

What is included

  • Full tyre inspection — Internal and external inspection to establish whether the damage falls inside the repairable area.
  • Permanent plug-and-patch repair — Where the damage qualifies, a combination unit repair from inside the tyre — not an external string plug.
  • Refit, balance and torque — The wheel is refitted, balanced where required and torqued to the manufacturer figure.
  • Pressure and TPMS reset — Reinflated to the vehicle’s placard pressure, with the TPMS sensor checked or reset where fitted.
  • Old part disposal — Any replaced part is removed by the fitter and handled through licensed waste routes.

Questions

Mobile Tyre Repair — the common questions.

If yours is not here, send a request and describe it. There is no charge and no obligation.

No. Repairs are only permitted within the central three-quarters of the tread. Sidewall or shoulder damage, cuts over 6 mm, a tyre that has been run flat, or a tyre with existing structural damage all mean replacement rather than repair. Your fitter inspects the tyre before deciding and will tell you which applies.

A single tyre repair is usually 30–45 minutes on site once the fitter arrives, including inspection, repair, refit and balancing.

Yes, when it is done properly. A mobile fitter carries the same tyre machine, balancer and torque equipment as a workshop. The important part is that the tyre is removed from the rim and repaired from the inside — which is exactly what the fitters on FlatTyreHelp do.

The fitter will show you why, and quote for a replacement tyre in the right size and speed/load rating. You are free to decline — you only pay the agreed call-out or inspection charge in that case.
